NORMAN HORNE, vice-president of Generation 2000 (G2K), the group of young business people associated with the Jamaica Labour Party, was yesterday sworn in as the newest Senator.
Horne, who replaces Desmond McKenzie, the recently-appointed Mayor of Kingston, wasted no time in moving his first resolution in the Senate.
"Be it resolved that this Senate calls on the Government to provide an adequate water supply for Mandeville and calls on the relevant authorities to make provisions for additional water supply to serve at least 250,000 persons in Central and Southern Manchester," he said, with an audience of G2K members watching from the gallery.
He said that the absence of water in Mandeville had caused major problems for residents, preventing children from attending school, the ill from receiving proper treatment, and households from "providing the necessities of life."
In reference to the recent destruction of the Ville Plaza on Main Street, Mandeville, he said the water woes "retard the proper prevention and extinguishing of fire disasters."
