Traffic lights needed at UWI campus entrance

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WISH to use this medium to ask the National Works Agency and the Principal of the Mona Campus, University of the West Indies, for a favour. Please install traffic lights at the main entrance to UWI, Mona, on Hermitage Road.
This is a very dangerous spot because cars travelling to and from August Town and Hermitage tend to overspeed without any regard for motorists and pedestrians leaving the University Campus. Numerous motor accidents have occurred at this spot. Recently I witnessed one such accident.
The powers that be saw it fit to put traffic lights at Jamaica College and Mona Prep School on Old Hope Road; the University of the West Indies should be provided with no less. Moreover, thousands of cars enter and exit the University through this entrance everyday.
Not only will it improve road safety but it well help the free flow of traffic to and from this institution.
