Double murder in Spanish Town
published: Saturday | September 13, 2003

Daviot Kelly, Staff Reporter

TWO SPANISH Town men, Eric Reid, 30, a plumber of King Street, and Conroy Mullings, 23, a labourer of Wellington Street, were shot dead in the old capital yesterday.

"Talk to me Eric, talk to me", pleaded Reid's mother as she looked at his body on the ground.

The police had a difficult time keeping onlookers behind their scene-of-crime tape. Some viewers wept while others simply stared in shock.

About 2:30 p.m., both men were walking along King Street with another man when a white Toyota Corolla car drove up and persons in it fired at them, police said. They were shot several times. Mullings fell at the doorstep of a nearby house while Reid managed to stagger along for a few more metres, falling face down after taking his last breath. Several 9mm cartridges and cartridge casings were found at the scene.

The car with the gunmen sped away.

The other man who was unidentified at press time, was taken to hospital. The police said they had not arrived at a motive for the murders.

There were reports last night that two more men were shot dead near the bus terminus with two others being shot and wounded.
