Power outage darkens eastern Jamaica

THE JAMAICA Public Service Co. (JPSCo) introduced load-shedding in Kingston, St. Andrew and parts of St. Thomas and Portland from 11 a.m. to after 4 p.m. yesterday.
And last night the light-and-power company warned that because of a shortfall in generating capacity, some JPSCO. customers in Blocks B, D and E "may be without their usual supply of electricity".
The company said the earlier load-shedding became necessary because of a disruption in its electricity supply which was caused by mechanical problems developing in several of its generating units. However, the company said that it was able to resume normal service in the affected areas by 5 p.m.
Large parts of the Corporate Area and parts of St. Thomas and Portland were without power at various periods.
