Black River seek hat-trick of wins against BB Coke High
published: Saturday | September 13, 2003

WESTERN BUREAU:

BLACK RIVER High will go in search of win No. 3 this afternoon when they take on B.B. Coke High in one of three games scheduled in Zone E of the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup.

Black River got off to a fast start, winning their first two games, scoring nine goals while not conceding any, as they lead the zone ahead of the more fancied former winners St Elizabeth Technical and Munro College on four and three points respectively.

Christiana and Garvey Maceo are the only other schools with a perfect record of two wins but will be idle today.

Garvey Maceo doubled their win record yesterday with a 5-0 thumping of a hapless Vere Technical who lost for the second straight time.

Aston Bennett and Kemar Clare scored doubles while the fifth was an own goal. Bennett scored in the 41st and 70th minutes while Clare was on target in the 24th and 89th. Clare scored for the second straight game and ran his total to three on the season after scoring the lone goal in their 1-0 win over Porus on Wednesday.

Twenty-seven games will be played in all 12 zones today with nine teams making their debuts.

Among them will be three early season top-of-the-zone clashes. Last season's beaten finalists Williams Knibb will host former champions Herbert Morrison in Martha Brae in Zone A; Ben Francis Knockout champions Old Harbour and Kemp's Hill will meet in Zone I while St. Mary High and Islington will meet in Zone K.

Of interest also will be the situation in Zone F where three teams, Bellefield, Manchester High and May Day, have had winning starts and will be ken to stay on top.
