FAST-RISING Jamaican Dustin Brown won a hard-fought match yesterday at the Jamaica F8 Futures tennis tournament to advance to today's semi-finals at the Holiday Inn, Montego Bay.
In a tight, three-set quarter-final against American qualifier Whi Kim, Brown, the tournament's No. 2 seed, got through to the semis - 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-2. The lanky Jamaican teenager will now meet No. 7 seed Jacob Adaktusson of Sweden who yesterday accounted for the other Jamaican to reach the quarters, Scott Willinsky.
Willinsky's game run at the event was abruptly halted 6-3, 6-1 by the runner-up at last week's Futures event at the same venue.
At the top end of the draw No. 1 seed Kepler Orellana continued to cruise with a casual 6-2, 6-2, win over Italian Alex Vittur.
The Venezuelan, who has dropped only 12 games in three matches, will meet Canada's Djan Cvetkovic in today's other semi. Cvetkovic, a special entry into the event, knocked out No. 3 seed American Wayne Odesnik, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
