LOCAL CRICKET fans will again be treated to two days of excitement during the second annual Jamaica Cricket Association's Double Wicket Championship scheduled for Kaiser Sports Club in Discovery Bay on September 27 and 28.

Twelve teams of two players each will contest the Laurie Williams Memorial Trophy, the winners will collect US$2,000, the runners-up US$1,000 and US$500 will go to the beaten semi-finalists, it was announced at a press conference at Sabina Park on Friday.

Cash prizes will go to the player who scores the most runs in one innings, the best fielder, the player who hits the most sixes, best wicketkeeper and others.

The Antiguan pair of Sylvester Joseph and Wilden Cornwall, who won the inaugural Championship at Kaiser Sports Club last year, will be back to defend their title along side, seven local teams, Barbados, West Indies Masters, Trinidad and Surrey from UK.

Jamaica Invitational Gold will be represented by Gareth Breese and David Bernard Jnr.; Jamaica Green (Wavell Hinds and Ricardo Powell); Jamaica Black (Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels); limited-overs champions Melbourne (Ramon Hutchinson and Llewellyn Meggs); Super League champions JDF (Kamal Dennis and Wayne Cuff); West Indies Masters (Carlyle Best and Courtney Walsh) and Barbados (Ryan Hurley and Ryan Nurse), the Jamaica Masters and Jamaica Youth combinations are yet to be named.

The 12 teams will be divided into four zones (three teams to a zone) with each team playing each other once in their four-over per-side contests. The second round will see teams divided into two zones (four teams to a zone) with round one rules applying.

In the semi-finals, teams will each have six overs, as will the final.
