How low will they go?
published: Wednesday | September 17, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

CICERO, THE great Roman, said taxes are the sinews of the state? But alas! Our modern Davies has resorted to collect blood, sweat and tears. To grind and plunder every ounce of every human being.

The 15 per cent levy on lotto winnings shows how low his mind can go. It does spoil the little fun in playing the lotto and thus gives the illegal operations free access.

Taxes on wooden coffins, ice to cool the dead all taxed.

History tells me "Kings" ought to shear, not skin their sheep.

I am, etc.,
