A DIVA OF divinity in her own right. One of the leading ladies in local gospel music. She is Sandra Brooks, the singing evangelist who has encouraged local gospel enthusiasts to Don't Worry and has pointed them to The Answer prayer whenever the storms of life get boisterous.
Sandra, who is also headmistress at The Sandra Brooks Academy of Gospel Music, has been a busy little bee, as throughout her career she has performed in places such as Anguilla, Antigua, the British Virgin Islands, England and Canada, amongst others.
Next week the gospel diva will be boarding a flight to the big apple New York, New York - to perform at a concert. Additionally, singing Sandra seems poised to release her third album, the name of which will remain a secret until the fullness of time has come. This 'G-14' classified album succeeds her previous attempts Don't Worry and The Answer.
Now, there is good news and there is bad news, which is better had first. The bad news is that the album will not be released locally until sometime early next year. However, it will be released in other neighbouring Caribbean islands before the curtains are brought down on 2003.
When The Gleaner caught up with Ms Brooks she was rather busy doing some laundry, but she facilitated the conversation nonetheless, which shows that the sister can whistle and ride.
If you could use one word to describe God, what would it be?
Awesome!
What is your favourite book in the Bible?
The Psalms. Because when I am in certain problems and I read the Psalms it shows me that David has been through similar scenarios and it encourages me and tells me that I can hold on.
If you could have God grant you one wish in this life, what would it be?
A peaceful world and to see everybody living in harmony. But that will never happen until God comes.
How often do you pray and how important is prayer?
I pray just about anytime. Prayer is key and the more I pray the more I see things, miracles happening in my life. The more I pray the more powerful I become, in terms if the anointing. Prayer is simply powerful.
Looking back at your life and comparing it to life today, what are the sentiments?
God has done so many things for me. I can say that God has blessed me, I can take care of my needs as oppose to the early days. I can tell any young person, once you put Jesus first He will open doors for you that you did not see, because He did it for me.
If you could be one character
in the Bible (gender is of no
significance) who would you want to be?
I admire (The apostle) Paul and David. For David to me was not perfect as nobody is perfect, but I love his humility and the fact that he loves God and is always repenting for the (evil) deeds he had done. He was a man after God's own heart. Paul is to me one of the persons who tell me that God can change anyone and that God is a merciful God. So no matter what you have done He can transform you. Paul was a true ambassador for God a true
evangelist.
What is your most prized
possession?
My salvation.
