St Mary being robbed
published: Friday | September 19, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ST. MARY, according to statistics is the poorest parish in Jamaica, yet they still continue to rob us of the little attractions that we have. I can vividly remember when James Bond Beach was just established and they were the host of Sashi that year, instead of the advertisers saying that it will be held at Oracabessa in St. Mary they said that it will be held at Oracabessa in Ocho Rios.

For many who either did not remember or did not know that Oracabessa was in St. Mary, they were led astray as I was told that many persons actually went to Ocho Rios looking for Oracabessa in an effort to find James Bond Beach. This is very unfair to the citizens of St. Mary as they were robbing St. Mary of publicity as many persons do not know that St. Mary does not only have bananas but they have beautiful beaches and attraction sites too.

I might also add that the famous Reggae Beach that many persons think is in the Parish of St. Ann is actually in the parish of St. Mary, so are the hotels such as Couples, San Souci, Beaches Boscobel and Golden Seas. So please stop robbing St. Mary of what is rightfully ours.

Yes, we may be the banana parish, but we are also the parish in which you can find Castleton Botanical Garden, a breath-taking Firefly and White River Valley.

I am, etc.,

MARISA DAWKINS

Hamilton Mountain P.A.
