Mother, sons to face illegal firearm charges
published: Friday | September 19, 2003

By Michael McLean, Gleaner Writer

SANTA CRUZ:

A WOMAN and her two sons who are facing charges of illegal possession of fire arm and ammunition and possession of ganja were on Tuesday denied bail when they appeared in the Santa Cruz RM court in St. Elizabeth.

She is 51-year-old Beverley Thompson, unemployed, 22-year-old taxi operator Fabian McLeish and his 25-year-old brother, Shawn McLeish, all of Roses Valley in the parish.

They were told by Resident Magistrate Marlene Malahoo-Forte to return to the Santa Cruz RM court on October 2.

The court was told last Friday that the Area 3 Flying Squad and the St. Elizabeth police carried out an operation in the area, where they searched the house occupied by the three persons and found a .38 automatic pistol, 32 rounds of ammunition and one pound of ganja. Around 5:00 a.m., the mother and her two sons were subsequently arrested and charged.

As a result of their arrests, the residents mounted several road blocks, stoned the police and were demanding the release of the three accused.
