WAVEL Hinds' XI defeated Robert Samuels' XI by four wickets in the latest Red Stripe Bowl practice match at Port Esquivel yesterday.
Hinds' XI set 185 to win from 47 overs, this after they were penalised for low over-rate, achieved their target for the loss of six wickets. Earlier Samuels' XI had scored 184 all out from 50 overs.
Shawn Findlay, 56, and Marlon Samuels, 25, who shared in a 67-run second-wicket stand set up the victory for Hinds' XI. They were supported by Lorenzo Ingram, 22 not out, Ricardo Powell, who hit two sixes in getting to 20, Matthew Sinclair, 19.
Gareth Breese two for 20 and Bevon Brown two for 36 were the leading wicket takers for Samuels XI.
Earlier, electing to bat after winning the toss, Robert Samuels' XI were in early trouble. Chris Gayle, one, was the first to go, caught behind by wicketkeeper Matthew Sinclair off pacer Jerome Taylor at one for two.
However, Brenton Parchment, 72, and captain Robert Samuels, 35, steadied the innings with a 88-run fourth-wicket stand before left-arm spinner Ingram struck by removing Robert Samuels, bowled at 123 for four.
Top-scorer Parchment faced 130 deliveries and hit six fours and two sixes was bowled by Taylor at 133 for five.
Marlon Samuels, who cleaned up the tail finished 3 for 28 from six overs. Richardson 3 for 36 off 10 overs and Taylor 2 for 32 from 10 were also among the wickets. Vinard Woolcock was left not out on 11.
The 14-man squad will be selected following today's final practice match at Sabina Park.
