SCOTLAND YARD detectives and local police investigators have postponed the interview they had requested with Senior Superintendent of Police Reneto Adams and five former members of the disbanded Crime Management Unit (CMU).
This, in relation to the controversial shootings in Kraal, Clarendon, on May 7, which left two men and two women dead.
Assistant Commissioner Osbourne Dyer said the interviews were scheduled for Wednesday and yesterday. Reports are that the interviews have been rescheduled for early next month.
"We are waiting on some aspects of the forensic investigations which are due from the United Kingdom," Mr. Dyer told The Gleaner yesterday.
FORENSIC INVESTIGATION
The investigators have already received post-mortem and ballistic results, in addition to statements and some results of the forensic investigation. The outstanding forensic report is said to be very vital, as it could paint a better picture of exactly what transpired.
On May 7, members of the now disbanded CMU went to the quiet farming district in Clarendon reportedly in search of a group of gunmen. The lawmen said that on their arrival they were challenged by the gunmen. A shoot-out ensued and four persons were killed.
Residents protested and dismissed the police's version of the incident. Eyewitnesses said the four were killed in cold blood by the police. Two illegal firearms were reportedly found at the scene.
Commissioner of Police Francis Forbes immediately intervened and asked the Goverment to seek international assistance in probing the matter. The Scotland Yard police were eventually called in. Exhibits taken from the death house were shipped to the United Kingdom for testing.
