Cops await forensic results on torso
published: Friday | September 26, 2003

THE POLICE are still uncertain if the torso, fished from the canal at the Jam World Entertainment Centre in St. Catherine three weeks ago, is that of their missing colleague, Detective Constable Devon Pearson.

According to the police, they are still awaiting the results of the forensic examination being conducted on the body part. There are reports that a recent test was done, but a test on the flesh was inconclusive. Further reports are that they are now going to conduct a test on sternum in another attempt to establish if it is that of the 33-year-old detective constable.

He has been missing since last month. About two days after he disappeared, his black 1996 Bluebird car, was in Caymanas Bay, St. Catherine, with the keys in the ignition. The car radio and his service pistol were missing.

An extensive search was conducted over several days in the bushes of Central Village and Caymanas Bay, but searchers came up empty handed. The torso was eventually found by fishermen.

About two weeks ago, three men who were implicated in the policeman's disappearance, were shot and killed during a shoot-out with police in Gregory Park, St. Catherine.
