THE EDITOR, Sir:
I was amazed when I read one of the headlines in one of our daily papers a few days ago, which stated that the Minister of Education was unable to attend a meeting on the North Coast because she was held up in a traffic jam in the Spanish Town area of St. Catherine.
I am sure as Minister she should be familiar with the various routes to the North Coast, plus the fact that it was reported the day before that there was massive traffic jam in the Spanish Town area due to the changes in the road systems; so the Minister was either ignorant of the other routes to the North Coast or she did not want to travel on the bad roads which her own government has failed to repair.
I am sure if she had taken the Red Hills via Rock Hall Sligoville route there would be no traffic congestion to stop her, only that she may have fallen into some potholes that are soon to become precipices.
She now has one opportunity to tell the Minister of Works that he needs to get on with his job and have those portions of roadway between Red Hills via Rock Hall, Sligoville to Bog Walk repaired so that it can ease the traffic congestion in Spanish Town and when this is done he can erect signs at both entrances to the areas directing motorists who are going non-stop to Kingston from Bog Walk and other North Coast areas, to use the route for easy access. I am sure this would go a long way in easing the congestion in Spanish Town.
I use this route from Bog Walk to Kingston on several occasions and it takes me the most 45 minutes to reach Kingston.
