published: Friday | September 26, 2003

By Michael McLean, Gleaner Writer

SANTA CRUZ, St. Elizabeth:

FOUR PERSONS who were reported to be involved in throwing stones at the police during a demonstration in Rose's Valley, St. Elizabeth, on Wednesday were yesterday served with summons to appear in the Balaclava Resident Magistrate's Court on October 2.

Swabian Bromfield; Christopher Brown, otherwise called 'Fabulous'; Rohan Thompson, also called 'English'; and Bernard Wallace are all charged with breaches of the Solid Waste Management Authority Act and stone throwing. Bromfield and Wallace are also charged with assault at common-law. Two other persons, Joseph Longmore, also called 'Clerk' and Gregory Wilson, also called 'Piggy' are to be served with summons.

Reports are that on the day in question, the Area Three Flying Squad and the St. Elizabeth police carried out an operation in the Rose's Valley area, where they searched a house occupied by a woman Beverley Thompson and her two sons, Fabian and Sean McLeash. They found a gun, 32 live rounds of ammunition and a quantity of ganja.

ARRESTED AND CHARGED

The woman and her two sons were subsequently arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and possession of ganja. Following their arrests, the residents set up road blocks in the community and allegedly stoned the police who went to the scene to clear the blockage. The family was denied bail when they appeared in the Santa Cruz court on September 16.
