Jamaica needs a Jonah
published: Wednesday | October 1, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHILE I am aware of the crime situation in Jamaica, I am at times disgusted with those Jamaicans abroad who never seem to have anything good to say about the country, especially those who got free education here or who the government sent abroad to study and they did not come back and are now waving the flag of "better than them" while making their contribution in another country.

They always know who should do what, and how things should be done, giving their expertise to another country and forgetting the one who made them what they are. I wish they would shut up.

Anyway, since Jamaica is a small island surrounded by water, and if guns are not made in that country, Elijah is the only one who knew how to make iron swim and that was with the help of God. How did those guns get in the country and were distributed to those scumbags to commit crimes? If there is corruption in the police department or in the government, that would certainly be an obstacle to peace. Perhaps what the country needs is a Jonah but would he do what the people of Nineveh did? I wonder.

I am, etc.,
