ACCOLADES WERE heaped on former chairman of the Runaway Bay/Ocho Rios Chapter of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, Freddie Marsh, at a function at Sandals Ocho Rios on Saturday night.
Representatives of a wide cross-section of tourism interests, stretching from Discovery Bay to Ocho Rios and including Director of Tourism, Paul Pennicook, lauded Marsh for eight years of unwavering service to the chapter.
Marsh was hailed by his colleagues for his commitment to the region's tourism, its growth and because he was never afraid to champion its cause, regardless of the circumstances.
FRUITFUL
His eight years of service to the chapter was described as fruitful and tributes pointed to his love for the area, its members, not just the hoteliers, but all the various sectors which combined to make the tourism product what it is today.
Mr. Marsh was presented with special tokens from the chapter by wife of St. Ann Custos' R. O Walters and head of the Association of Villa owners Vanna Taylor.
The evening was a pleasant mixture of tasty food, witty conversation, jokes, tributes and reply from the man of the moment, who thanked everyone present for the great display of affection and respect.
Mr. Marsh said he was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support and was pleased to have made a contribution. New chairman of the chapter, Michael Darby, who is also general manager at Sandals Ocho Rios hailed Marsh for his yoeman service and pledged to continue moving the chapter ahead, through what he described as the "challenging times ahead".
