Case of the stolen 'dex'
published: Thursday | October 2, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON WATCHING the 7 p.m. news, I was drawn to highlight a problem that exists in our schools.

A school teacher was lamenting the break-in at the school. As she spoke of all the things that were stolen, she mentioned the word "dex".

I have heard so many teachers, who should know better, use it, instead of the correct word which is "desk". How do we expect to teach our young ones the correct pronunciation if our teachers don't know it?

I am, etc.,
