Bogue land probe a waste of money - Sinclair Roy Sanford
published: Thursday | October 2, 2003

By Roy Sanford, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

COUNCILLOR CHARLES Sinclair, who was appointed by the St. James Parish Council to probe the controversial Bogue Land issue in Montego Bay, has said, that the appointment of Dennis Morrison Q.C., by the Ministry of Local Government to probe the same matter is a waste of money.

On Tuesday the Ministry announced that Mr. Morrison was appointed to investigate the matter some four months after Minister of Local Government Portia Simpson Miller promised a probe.

"The attorney-at-law will conduct his investigations guided by terms of reference developed by the Ministry of Local Govern-ment and approved by the Attorney-General's office," the Minister said in a statement, in announcing the appointment of Mr. Morrison.

INVESTIGATION

However, in an interview with The Gleaner on Wednesday Mr. Sinclair, who recently completed his own investigation, is maintaining that the Ministry's probe was going to be a "waste of money" since it is not going to find anything new." I am satisfied with the accuracy of my report," he said. "I don't expect him (Mr. Morrison) to find anything new."

The Bogue land issue surfaced in mid-June, when the former Parish Council administration announced that it was regularising the land by making it available to informal settlers on a two-year lease-to-sell agreement.
