Crime control
published: Friday | October 3, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHAT THE police are trying to do now, if they had done it 50 years ago, they would be better able to control crime. Now the police are getting to the inner cities, talking to citizens and trying to socialise.

Respect is due to all people, rich or poor, educated or not. The people need jobs, justice, courtesy and respect. The government's social system is not helping the police to curb crime. Brute force with guns and pepper spray cannot solve or contain crime. Social respect to all the people is the essence of good intelligence gathering, while intelligence is the essential that will help the police to control crime.

When it comes to courtesy and respect for citizens and their complaints, I am compelled to mention Police Inspector Brooks of the Spanish Town station. This officer is a beacon, a great light to the force.

I am, etc.,

ROBERT SOLOMON HENRY

Lot 11 North

Monticello Crescent

Spanish Town P.O.
