GOVERNMENT WILL be seeking a judicial review of the arbitration award handed down by a tribunal in favour of the National Transport Co-operative Society (NTCS) on Thursday.
In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Transport said, "the Government's legal team will be pursuing a Judicial review on the basis that yesterday's (Thursday) ruling by the arbitration tribunal was impacted by a number of errors in law." The statement said the Government's attorneys briefed the Standing Cabinet Sub-committee on the ruling and the pertinent issues.
The tribunal ruled that the Government must pay the NTCS just over $4 billion with interest payable at commercial bank lending and Treasury Bill rates, for breaching a 10-year contract signed in 1995 to provide transportation services in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region (KMTR).
