The roast breadfruit mentality
published: Sunday | October 5, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WE ARE told that we were fortunate to be enslaved and brought to the Caribbean to be Christianised. Now, Dawn Ritch is glad for the institution of British chattel slavery, because it had the effect of creating societies in Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean.

I don't care much for Dawn Ritch and her roast breadfruit mentality. It is unfortunate that so many persons in positions of influence in Jamaica are of this mentality.

Miss Ritch claims not to be a member of the black race and apparently not certain of her racial orientation.

I would suggest that she spends a couple years in Britain and the institutions there would definitely put a racial brand on her, whether she likes it or not.

Miss Ritch, it is not too late to go and spend another 200 years under the Union Jack.

I am, etc.,
