NTC breached contract long ago

THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS with consternation and much grief that I read in The Gleaner of October 3, of the award of $4 billion to the National Transport Co-operative Society against the government for breach of contract.
I was always of the opinion that a contract demanded actions on both sides but it seems that only the actions of the Government were taken into account in this judgment. As a citizen of Greater Portmore I can attest to the poor and at times non-existent service of the so-called executive buses. I recall the many nights I stood at the bus stop in Half-Way Tree up to 10 o'clock, having left work at 5 p.m. trying to get a bus to Greater Portmore while, for some reason, all the buses were heading for Gregory Park.
The crews were arrogant and rude, they picked up only their favourite passengers, the routing was arbitrary and there seemed to be no supervision. As such I can see no justification for this award as the NTC. was in breach of contract long before the Government thankfully took over the bus system and I strongly protest the use of taxpayers' money to pay any such award.
