No hard feelings, says Anderson
published: Monday | October 6, 2003

By Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

PRESIDENT of the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) Pat Anderson has expressed 'sympathy' for the Barbados Amateur Athletic Association (BAAA) following the International Association of Athletics Federations' (IAAF) decision to block Usain Bolt's world junior 200 metres record set at last July's Pan American Junior Championships.

Anderson said Friday "An error had been made" but added that such mistakes are always possible.

"I always remember that a lot of people in these federations are what we call part-timers, these people have their jobs. I sympathise with them. It's a bit careless but at the same time I have to sympathise with them."

The Barbados National Stadium track did not secure IAAF certification for its new track before the meet and the IAAF council has refused to ratify Bolt's world record equalling 20.13 seconds which he clocked to win gold in the event at the mid-July Junior Pan American Championships.

Anderson added: "Knowing young Bolt, things like these will not affect him. He is very mature for his age and will be back stronger next year."
