Christiana poised to advance
published: Wednesday | October 8, 2003

By Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

CHRISTIANA HIGH crept closer to clinching a place in the inter-zone round of the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup yesterday after scoring a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Mile Gully in Zone G.

The win carried Christiana to 17 points, five clear of Holmwood and Spalding and they need only a point from two remaining games to book their place in the next round.

Meanwhile, former champions Cornwall College, who have booked their place from Zone A already, moved closer to topping the zone after scoring a 3-2 win over Anchovy at Jarrett Park.

Lushane Brent-Harris scored twice and Charles Hines once as they bounced back from a 1-0 loss to William Knibb on Saturday.

Munro College maintained their lead in Zone E after a bruising 2-2 draw at Black River that saw two red cards issued.

Roshane Ellison, who had given Munro the lead in the 27th minute, was sent off along with Black River's Troy Barnes. Odaine Barrett, who had equalised for Munro, will also miss tomorrow' clash with Maggotty after picking up his third yellow card.

Melvin Reid had given Black River the lead after 14 minutes while Everett Mullings, who scored Black River's equaliser from the penalty spot in the 44th minute, got his ninth goal of the season.

Maggotty's hopes of advancing were severely dented as they went down 1-0 to B.B. Coke.

Six more teams, including two who will be seeking to make a return to the inter-zone round after missing out last season, can book their places as return round action continues this afternoon with 19 games.
