NYAMMINS & JAMMINS, Montego Bay's annual food festival, will be staged at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre on Heroes Day, 0ctober 20, showcasing a combination of food, horticulture, art and craft, and music.
Organisers of the festival are spending $2 million to stage the event, and hope to rake in $3 million, leaving them with a clear million of profits.
"This will be our third year and we are anticipating the same success as we enjoyed in the previous two stagings," said Marlene Stephenson-Dalley, a member of the St. James 4-H advisory committee, which is staging the event.
"It will once again be clean family fun as we showcase a wide range of Jamaican delicacies in a fun-filled setting."
Speaking at last Thursday's launch of the event in Montego Bay, Lenworth Fulton, the National chairman of the 4-H movement, said that because of the limited government funding to the 4H movement, it has become necessary for the various advisory councils to create programmes aimed at generating funds.
The year's event, which has once again attracted sponsorship from the local business community and the media, will see the return of the St. James Festival 'King' and 'Queen' coronations.
"We will also see the positive involvement of related agencies such as the Marine Park and the Jamaica Red Cross," said Mrs. Stephenson-Dalley."
The entertainment package will feature Kevin Downswell, the 2003 Gospel Festival winner; Leroy Smith, formerly of the renowned Grace Thrillers; gospel singer Marsha Daniels; and Mackie Conscious, who will all be backed by the Fab Five band.
The children, who are expected to be an integral part of the day's activities, which run from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., will have the additional thrill of a fun corner, which will feature a Titantic simulator, basketball hoop, bounce about and horseback riding, among other attractions.
