Seven named in PRIDE fraud
published: Wednesday | October 15, 2003

By Glenroy Sinclair and Claude Mills, Staff Reporters

THE CRIMINAL Investigation Bureau in Kingston has got the go-ahead to execute arrest warrants on seven persons that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ruled against in the National Housing Development Corporation (NHDC) fraud case.

The case involves the misappropriation of some $450 million.

According to the police, over 80 charges are to be executed on the seven in relation to offences, including forgery, uttering, demanding property, conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence in respect of the Melbrook Heights, St. Benedict Heights, Morant Farm and Riverton City NHDC/Operation Pride projects.

Deputy Commissioner Lucius Thomas, who is in receipt of the case file, remains tight-lipped about the identity of the persons to be charged. But sources close to the investigation have revealed that they include one woman and six men.

Heading the list is well-known businessman and People's National Party (PNP) activist, Danhai Williams, 46, and his Kingston-based company Danwills Construction Limited.

SEPARATE ENTITY

Reports are that DPP Kent Pantry has also ruled that Mr. Williams' company be charged as a separate entity. Others on the list to be charged are Donovan Hill and Warren Sibbles, two senior officers formerly employed to the NHDC, and Carl Kirkland, Wayne Nash, a man identified to The Gleaner only as Mr. Dawkins and an un-named woman who was said to be a porter at the NHDC office.

Assistant Commissioner Reggie Grant has been put in charge of assembling a team of senior detectives to prepare the charges against the seven.
