Brassieres and breast cancer

THE EDITOR, Sir:
AFTER READING the letter "Bras and breast cancer" by K.W. Willacey I cannot help wondering if the author did some research on the subject or his/her ideas are just mere speculations. It is true that some of the things we enjoy today because of advanced civilisation have had some hurtful effects on our lifestyle. However, at the same time we must admit that they have made our lives easier.
I don't think " brassieres contribute to the affliction of breast cancer" as K.W. Willacey put it but I believe that the following reasons have been proven based on research carried out:
75% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer are those who don't have children. In fact nuns are a prime example.
women with fewer children - e.g. one or two.
hereditary factor.
Thanking you.
