We must stand against crime
published: Thursday | October 16, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THIS IS an open letter to all well-thinking Jamaicans. Let us no longer sit around and bask in lip-service, it is time we put an end to the scourge of crime that is prevalent in our society. Let us empower our people to help themselves so that we do not continue to exist in an environment of "Beg yuh a money nuh" and "Yow king, yuh nuh see seh man a suffarah".

Let us reject the foolishness of "community liaison personnel" in volatile neighbourhoods, who are mere mechanisms for the distribution of "spoils".

Like George W. Bush "we" are at war against terrorism and its agents, and in our case it is home-grown.

Will the real Jamaicans please stand up!

I am, etc.,
