THREE JAMAICAN companies won major awards at the 10th staging of the 'Caribbean Gift & Craft Show' (CGCS), held in Grenada recently, which was attended by over 200 regional and international trade buyers.
JAMPRO co-ordinated the participation of 45 local artists, artisans and designers, and from this group, the following companies received recognition for the quality of their products:
Blue Mountain Aromatics 'Outstanding Product Line (Gift & Craft)'
Bill Edwards Fashion 'Outstanding Product Line (Fashion)'
Starfish Oils 'Outstanding Creative Packaging'
Special 10th anniversary awards were presented to founding member of CGCS, Anabella Proud-lock of Harmony Hall, St. Ann and our national carrier Air Jamaica for being a consistent sponsor of the show. Cleopatra's Collection, Harmony Hall, Cotton & Craft and Just Kids also won awards for consistent participation as exhibitors.
The Jamaican contingent presented Caribbean Export, the organisers of the show, with a commemorative plaque in recognition of the anniversary.
Susan Ward, owner of Blue Mountain Aromatics, is pleased with the positive responses to the company's products and packaging, which combine 'local ingredients with original Jamaican art'. In 2001, the company won the award for 'Outstanding Creative Packaging'.
Jamaica has traditionally carried the largest contingent to the show, which was being held at the Grenada Trade Centre for the second consecutive year. Jamaica also has an impressive track record of taking the major awards, and at last year's show, Just Art received the award for 'Best Handcrafted Product', with another Jamaican firm, Richard Atkinson, placing second. Starfish Oils was first runner-up in the 'Outstanding Creative Packaging' category and Cleopatra's Collection came up for special mention in the Fashion segment.
