Discuss more real issues, Nationwide
published: Friday | October 24, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT IS alarming to hear two recent news items being sensationalised on Nationwide Power 106 FM.

The first being of a prominent individual's engagement and subsequent dismissal from his family business and the second on the case of two persons', from a prominent family, divorce proceedings (October 22).

I definitely do not think that these two issues are noteworthy for major news in a country filled with daily terror, corruption and disease. Those issues are people's personal lives and deserve the respect of privacy.

There are numerous other cases - too numerous to count - which require the talent and professionalism of true journalists to bring Jamaican people out of their slumber.

Some major issues that Jamaicans need to focus attention are the following: The NHDC Scandal with all its tentacles, the Temple Hall killings, the Krawle investigation and the battle of Canterbury, to name a few. I hardly think that there are enough journalists to cover all of the news items. Media and journalists have absolutely no time to scandalise, sensationalise and use people's personal lives as a method to detract from the real news.

Nationwide, I would rather hear professional, investigative journalism, than about people's personal lives! I have always had the greatest respect for Nationwide - there is hardly a day I do not listen to some part of their programme but I ask them stop wasting precious time with petty foolishness - bring me the real news!

I am, etc.,
