Operating theatre techs underpaid

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THIS LETTER is for the attention of Minister John Junor:
I wish to bring to your attention the plight of a particular group of workers in the health sector. I am referring to the Operating Theatre technicians that are employed in the Public General Hospitals islandwide.
Most people will concur with them that they are the most under-paid and underrated group of professionals in the sector today. The responsibilities that they are entrusted with in the areas of surgery and patient care demand high levels of professionalism, yet for some reason or the other, this is not being recognised.
Their basic salary has remained at $18,700 per month (before taxes) for the longest while. They are long overdue for a re-classification and re-adjustment of their salaries and benefits. Their working conditions leave much to be desired and they are begging for some form of parity.
I am, etc.,
