Jamaicans must read more
published: Friday | October 24, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

HAVING JUST had the opportunity to be treated to the "Berlin Book Fair" let me invite publishers in Jamaica to organise the "Mother of all Media Fairs". This would undoubtedly include newspapers in fact all electronic and printed media. As the economic situation tightens, Jamaicans need to read and understand what is cause of this situation.

On the front page of Tuesday, October 7th, there is a picture of a large crowd of Jamaicans outside the offices of the Overseas Employment Bureau, all waiting to go to the United States to be employed in the hotel industry.

We are also told that this country must train teachers and nurses for the overseas market. One thing that is beyond any doubt. Jamaicans must read more.

The best form of "getting the facts is the printed Media. Reason being, one can keep the printed media for $40 or eighteen, as against sending to the electronic media, to get a tape recording of "who said what". To know what is going on around you. The nation's best choice is the printed media.

I am, etc.,

LLOYD A.S. HENRY
