Six-year-old steals Jamboree
published: Friday | October 24, 2003

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine

THE JAMAICA Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) staged its 'Road Jam-boree' at Emancipation Square in the old capital Spanish Town, St. Catherine on Saturday, but the event attracted very few participants.

But those who did show were treated to a gospel show that features, among others, a six-year-old singing sensation.

Taking the stage first were the GC Foster singers, a group of 11 females and four males, who gave an encore performance on Shirley Caesar's 'I Remember Mama'.

The show got warmer with the diminutive Carlene Waugh, who did a rendition of 'How Great Thou Art' But the star of the Jamboree was little Oshin Levy, six, out of White Water Primary School, who gave the paltry gathering a reason to sing along with her 'Yes Jesus Loves Me'.

With good voice control she virtually tore the place apart with an encore performance.

Other items were rendered by the Rod Dennis mento band out of Spanish Town. Also in the square was Stefan Penincilin, the JCDC Popular Song winner, who was master of ceremonies.
