LEADER OF the Opposition Edward Seaga says he is "pleased that a number of Operation PRIDE projects are now to be unveiled in court."
He was referring to the case involving seven persons charged in connection with the $451 million fraud allegedly committed against the National Housing Development Corporation, which manages the PRIDE programme.
"The Opposition is satisfied that it played a critical Constitutional role in collaborating with the DPP in strengthening the system of law and order to enable the prosecutions to be made," said a release from Mr. Seaga.
CONCERNS
He said the Opposition had expressed concerns about a number of Operation PRIDE projects from February 2002, and had subsequently forwarded documents obtained by Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Auddley Shaw, to the island's chief prosecutor.
"As Leader of the Opposition, I forwarded the material to the Director of Public Prosecutions for him to determine whether charges should be laid," Mr. Seaga said.
