THE EDITOR, Sir:THE "LICK AND PROMISE" way in which the authorities have dealt with asphalting of the parochial road that goes through the heart of Kensington, near Sligoville in East Central St. Catherine, makes it a disappointment instead of a blessing to residents here.
On one occasion the part of road from the old Simon postal agency at the western end of the village, going easterly from there, has been asphalted towards a certain distance and then, full stop.
At the other end, on the eastern part where the road meets with the main road between Sligoville and Spanish Town, Kensingston's asphalted road juts off the main road and snakes its way into the old village, only to reach not too long a distance, where the paved roadway gives way to an almost un-negotiable ruinate posed there an unbearably long time ago.
Between the two strips of asphalted road, there is a stretch of unpaved, rugged, badly degraded roadway in the middle of a fairly long distance.
It begs to be upgraded to become a road once again. Taxi operators are refusing to drive their cars beyond certain points on the road.
If the day comes (which may not be long in coming), when all taxi operators refuse to use that neglected road, the residents here might have to revisit a time when the hammock was used to carry sick loved ones on shoulders to seek medical attention.
A question for our esteemed Member of Parliament, Honourable K. D. Knight, also our well-supported Councillor, and former Mayor of Spanish Town, Owen Stephenson, in his second term as Councillor of Sligoville Division: 'Sirs: When will road improvement work resume in Kensington?'
The disgruntled residents hereabouts want to know the answer - soon.
I am, etc,
