Frome, Clarendon, Munro and Dinthill advance
published: Sunday | October 26, 2003

Paul A. Reid, Staff Reporter

WESTERN BUREAU:

FOUR SCHOOLS booked their places in the last eight of the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup rural schoolboys football competition after yesterday's rain affected third round of matches in the inter-zone round.

Frome Technical from Group Two, Clarendon College and Munro College from Group Three and Dinthill Technical from Group Six all secured their places while there were good wins for Cornwall College and Holmwood Technical to set themselves up for one of the other five places still up for grabs.

Meanwhile, defending champions Rusea's surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 to Cornwall College in the second game of the Jarrett Park doubleheader and their place in the competition is tenuous.

Cornwall and Rusea's are on six points but Cornwall have a rescheduled game in hand against Mannings in Little London tomorrow and need only a point. A loss for Cornwall however against Mannings, who lost both their games so far, would see Rusea's advance.

Damion Watson had given Rusea's the lead early in the second half but goals from Jahvon Russell and substitute Andrew Brown took Cornwall to victory.

Meanwhile, the Group Four game between Bellefield and St. Elizabeth Technical at Black River High and the Group Five game between Garvey Maceo and Titchfield at Brancourt were called off due to rain and muddy fields. Crowd violence at Emmett Park forced the early stoppage of the Group Six game between Seaforth High and Old Harbour at Emmett Park in Kingston.

Frome topped Group Two with seven points after playing to an exciting 2-2 draw with last season's beaten finalists William Knibb in the first game as Knibb were knocked out.

YESTERDAY'S RESULTS

Group One: Rusea's 1 Cornwall 2, Mannings 0 Cedric Titus 1.

Group Two: Frome 2 William Knibb 2, Petersfield 2 Brown's Town 1.

Group Three: Manchester 0 Munro 1, Christiana 0 Clarendon 5.

Group Four: Bellefield vs STETHS - rain, Holmwood 2 Glenmuir 1.

Group Five: Titchfield vs Garvey Maceo - rain, Brimmer Vale 3 Charlemont 1.

Group Six: Seaforth vs Old Harbour - crowd violence did not finish, St. Mary Technical 0 Dinthill 2.
