By Dennise Williams, Staff Reporter"WE HAVE achieved our goal of putting Jamaican businesses in contact with Atlanta businesses," said Michael McMorris, executive director of markets at Jampro.
He was speaking at a press briefing at Jampro's Trafalgar Road headquarters yesterday. Mr. McMorris was discussing the outcome of the Jamaica/ Atlanta Business Exchange held in the southern United States city during October 15-18.
McMorris said the trade mission was successful in Jampro's point of view because of the number of targeted meetings held and the warm reception by the Atlanta business community. He said it was not a typical trade mission where guests were invited to just look at displays of Jamaican goods and services.
"We didn't want the old trade show method," Mr. McMorris said. "What we did was match making with the companies in Atlanta. It was about taking specifics, a meeting of the minds and creating business contacts."
With this in mind, Jampro staged "180 prescheduled meetings developed based on specific targeting of Atlanta counterparts based on information provided by the Jamaican candidates in advance of the mission."
There were 18 Jamaican private sector companies and six public sector agencies attending the trade mission. To provide further networking opportunities for the Jamaican participants, Jampro put on social 'mixer events'.
