'Woman 2003' a real delight - Ladies show off sexy, elegant wardrobes
published: Tuesday | October 28, 2003

IF YOU were at the fashion show put on by Woman Inc. at the 'Woman 2003' trade fair and exhibition at the Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston on Sunday, then you were in for a real treat. The setting, casual and intimate, with standing room only for the small gathering around the stage that was barely above ground level, belied the very glamorous and elegant displays which were presented. Compére Edgar Gallimore did a wonderful job of introducing the graceful and gorgeous ladies of Woman Inc. who modelled outfits either from their own wardrobe or designed by themselves.

SATISFACTION

The gowns ranged from a very sexy red sequinned number to a traditional Indian dress worn by founding member of Woman Inc. Gloria Palomino. After an impressive first segment, thoroughly enjoyed by the audience, the bridal wear was presented. This segment was put on by Petals and Promises, and featured traditional wedding gowns as well as the more creative and an unusual raffia crocheted number - a crowd favourite. This segment proved even more satisfying to the audience, which responded with whistles, chants and claps as the ladies strutted their stuff. The presentations were fast-paced and uptempo, but not so fast that you could not enjoy the designs featured, and therefore not too stressful on the feet of the standing audience. Special celebrity models were Miss Jamaica Universe 2003 Michelle Lecky, Miss Jamaica World 1997 Michelle Moodie, and Joan McDonald, Miss Jamaica World 1978.

TREATS

In addition to the fashion show, women were treated to manicures by the Heart Trust NTA School of Cosmetology at a low cost of $100 and free makeovers from Soft Sheen Carson.

The fashion show was a culmination of two days of displays, seminars and programmes put on by Woman Inc. with the aim of building awareness about issues concerning women and the family, and raising funds to ensure the maintenance of the Crisis Centre and the Crisis Shelter for women. Woman Inc. is a private, charitable non-profit organisation dedicated to providing assistance to the victims of rape, incest, domestic violence and sexual harassment at the workplace.
