THE DIRECTOR of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Kent Pantry, is now in receipt of the file detailing the investigations into the controversial shooting of four persons at Kraal, Clarendon, on May 7.
Deputy Commissioner Lucius Thomas, who chaired a committee that was mandated to monitor the investigations, confirmed that the file was sent to the office of the DPP yesterday.
Reports reaching The Gleaner say that Mr. Pantry will be going off on vacation leave Friday for two months, and that Senior Deputy Director Brian Sykes will likely act as DPP until his return.
"The investigations, led by Assistant Commissioner Dyer and Scotland Yard detectives, were thorough and transparent," said DCP Thomas. ACP Dyer, who spearheaded the investigations, went on pre-retirement leave last Friday.
MORE THAN 80 STATEMENTS
The file comprises more than 80 statements collected from residents of Kraal, plus six written statements submitted by Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams and former members of the disbanded Crime Management Unit (CMU), forensic and ballistics certificates, plus recommendations submitted by the investigators.
Preliminary police reports had said the lawmen went to the district in search of wanted men when they came under attack, and that a shoot-out ensued resulting in the death of two men and two women. They also claimed that two illegal guns were found at the scene.
