JHTA reaction apathetic

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I FIND the response of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA), particularly its president Mr. Godfrey Dyer, quite apathetic to the plight of real Jamaicans in the Flankers community. There is no doubt the tourism industry is important to the nation and the economy; but when we become insensitive to how real Jamaicans have to live in the name of saving the tourist dollar we have 'dissed' Jamaica.
Mr. Dyer, a respected Jamaican, should lend better support to the people of Flanker first, before being concerned about any possible fall-out in the tourism sector. If the JHTA wants a more stable social infrastructure then it must be more proactive in taking more interest in the communities which are situated in the areas concerned with tourism.
I am, etc.,
