WESTERN BUREAU:
FIRST-TIME quarter-finalists Seaforth High created the upset of the first set of matches in the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup yesterday when they shocked Dinthill Technical 1-0 in a Group Two game played at the Buff Bay Community Centre.
Mervin Miller scored in the 34th minute from a pass from national Under-17 player Kemar Smith as Seaforth handed Frank Brown-coached Dinthill their first loss of the season, snapping their 11-game unbeaten streak.
Meanwhile, there were wins for former champions Cornwall College and Clarendon College over Holmwood Technical and Frome Technical respectively while Munro College and Titchfield ended 2-2 in their game at Buff Bay.
Cornwall beat Holmwood 2-0 at Brooks Park while Clarendon College handed Frome their first loss of the season with a 1-0 margin at St. Elizabeth Technical in Santa Cruz. Mario Harrison scored in the second half for Clarendon, who stretched their unbeaten streak to 12 games.
At Buff Bay, Munro came from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead at halftime but had to settle for a point as coach Neil Harrison complained bitterly after the game about the officiating.
Ryan McNeil gave Titchfield the lead in the 19th minute but an own goal and a strike from Roshane Ellison gave the St. Elizabeth team the lead.
Denroy Wilson came up trumps in the second half for Titchfield by grabbing the equaliser.
Cornwall College and Holmwood struggled on a wet and heavy field at Brooks Park in Mandeville as heavy rain pushed back the start by half an hour.
Cornwall made the most of the conditions by scoring both goals from set plays.
Andre Moore scored a glancing header from a free kick taken by Thio Daye in the 42nd minute while Jahvan Russell volleyed home the second goal in the 80th minute.
The game was competitive throughout and despite the muddy conditions was played at a high pace.
Cornwall created most of the chances in the first 45 minutes but Holmwood kept them on the back foot for long periods in the second half after coach Dave Anderson brought on Kenroy Palmer, who combined well with the skilful dribbler Conrad Thompson.
RESULTS
Group One: Holmwood 0 Cornwall College 2, Titchfield 2 Munro College 2.
Group Two: Clarendon College 1 Frome 0, Seaforth 1 Dinthill 0.
