JPSCo's Third World service

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE JAMAICA Public Service Company has never been run worse than today. We have sold out our Jamaican shares to a first world company that was to give Jamaicans first world service. No problem if this was the case. In return we have got Third World service. What did we all expect? We have always been treated like Third World people. We have always taken the worst service and put up with it. It took a First World telephone company to come to Jamaica and show Jamaicans that our own was giving us Third World service. Now look at the difference: "The owner fi di yard a come." Why did you not come before?
Not even in our worst days could the JPSCo just cut you off for over five hours and not even give you the notice that is needed to put your daily life in order. Not even Gilbert. Even then we were given notice of power failures to happen. These new owners keep asking for more money, the bills keep getting higher and the service keeps getting lower. Are we Jamaicans going to continue to put up with this bad service? We deserve better and the Government of Jamaica should make sure that we get better. We deserve better treatment, better service.
We pay more than most countries in the world for power. Their duty is to provide us with POWER not POWER CUTS.
I am, etc.,
PETER SHOUCAIR (J.P.)
