Lamenting the Gov't's position on US contract
published: Monday | November 3, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

IT WAS depressing to see the article relating The Gleaner's position subsequent to having lost a bid to print textbooks for the nation's schools. It seems the government, like slaves put to supervise their fellow slaves, brutalises them to prove their impartiality. So we lose more business and jobs.

I would like the government to take a look at any contract issued by the US or any other developed country, and see if the contract doesn't first have the requirement for citizenship, and registration in their country.

Even more unfortunate than their giving the contract to a foreign company was the lack of foresight that could have shown them that there would be a concurrent loss of jobs and tax revenues.

I lament these days of Jamaica, we are doomed to be slaves yet again, and prisoners of the children we have failed on our watch. God bless Jamaica. May God help us.

I am, etc.,
