The height of stupidity

THE EDITOR, Sir:
MELVILLE COOKE, in his recent article 'Redemption Song vs my Ms Jamaica', surprisingly pointed out that he actually liked the controversial monument at the entrance of Emancipation Park. At first I felt enlightened, hoping to understand his rationale, I didn't think it was too much to expect to read more about Emancipation and its virtues and the artistic values the monument appeared to represent to him.
Instead, the reader is given a whole lecture about the nude female anatomy, and what it means to Mr. Cooke. He elaborated on the female form from breasts to buttocks, and then he dared to compare the form to past Ms. Jamaicas. To suggest that the female component is 'his Ms Jamaica', is really the height of stupidity. There is no comparison, one is an idyllic form, an artistic representation of a turning point in our history. The other, well simply put, is representative of the real and modern Jamaican woman, a woman who possesses not only physical beauty, but more importantly possesses a unique sense of style, intelligence, charm and purpose, fit to represent us with pride on the world stage.
