Liberty Hall, the correct name
published: Thursday | November 6, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

LIBERTY HALL is a most welcome name given to the former headquarters of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA).

From all appearances, it was a grand re-opening, especially to see in the Gleaner of the 21/10/03, the pictures depicting the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition and his wife sitting together looking attentively at a compact disc of information about Marcus Garvey.

Liberty Hall epitomizes cosmopolitan which is freedom and freedom in all aspects of life for mankind to live in peace and harmony, irrespective of colour, creed or race.

All our National Heroes should be revered not only on Heroes Day with fanfare, but throughout, so that it becomes a legend.

We are also hoping that this meeting place (Liberty Hall) will attract individuals coming together from different backgrounds will enable them, to learn how to live in unity - socially, politically and to induce good values and attitudes.

It is the perception of many that for any person to earn this title, he/she must have to be a warrior. But Garvey's message was to sensitize and bring consciousness to the Negro race world wide.

Let us hope, that we shall use this Hall, bearing in mind the definition of the word 'liberty', and the life and work of the Most Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey.

It is a biblical saying, that where "holiness reigns, there is no condemnation."

I am, etc.,
