Uncertainty surrounds Taylor's back injury
published: Friday | November 7, 2003

By Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

THE EXTENT of paceman Jerome Taylor's injury is still shrouded in mystery and he could be forced to miss the remainder of the African (Zimbabwe and South Africa) tour.

The young Jamaican bowler saw a specialist yesterday and had his back injury scanned. The result apparently did not please the West Indies' team management so a second opinion will be sought today.

As to if Taylor will be coming home, team manager Ricky Skerritt said: "We are not going to release our findings until we have a second opinion tomorrow morning," Skerritt told The Gleaner in a telephone interview yesterday.

He said there should be a statement out on Taylor by this morning (Jamaica time).

Despite the injury, Taylor will still be able to bat in the West Indies first innings, "nothing is going to stop Jerome from batting, what he has is a injury aggravated by bowling, not by batting", Skerritt said the teenager is due in next to help the Caribbean side from a struggling position of 241 for six.

Taylor, a former St. Elizabeth Technical High student, strained a joint in his lower back against Zimbabwe on Tuesday. After being treated by the physio, Taylor went back on the field, however, after bowling four deliveries, the spasms started again.
