published: Saturday | November 8, 2003

Becca

THE MAYOR of Black River, councillor Frank Witter, will declare tomorrow Tony Becca's day in South East St. Elizabeth.

In his honour, the Mayor has organised a cricket festival match-sponsored by WILCO Sports between Becca's Melbourne Invitational XI against Uprising Invitational XI at the Uprising Sports Ground starting at 10:30 a.m.

Becca's XI will have the services of three players (Robert Samuels, Gareth Breese and David Bernard Jr.) with West Indies Test experience. Playing alongside them will be batsmen Brenton Parchment and Donovan Pagon and fast bowler Andrew Richardson, all of whom have played first-class cricket for Jamaica.

The hard-hitting Shawn Findlay, who was a member of Jamaica's Red Stripe Bowl squad, will also boost the team.

Mayor Witter and the Uprising Youth Club will make a special presentation to former Gleaner Senior Sport Editor Becca for his contribution to cricket during the lunch interval.

Becca XI (from): Robert Samuels, Gareth Breese, David Bernard Jr., Brenton Parchment, Shawn Findlay, Llewellyn Meggs, Nikita Miller, Donovan Pagon, Dillon Ebanks, Ray Stewart, Jason Nelson, Roman Hutchinson, Andrew Richardson, Leon Bent and Yanick Elliott.

The Uprising XI (from): Wayne Billings, Tony Powell, Troy Powell, Dave Ledgister, Trace Powell, Chris Vassell, Lennox Simpson, Urel Samuels, Vernon Boswell, Richard Muschette, Anthony Kepple and Tyrone Vassell.
