Handling waste properly
published: Monday | November 10, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

CRUISE SHIPS for World Cup cricket are a great idea to solve a short-term problem of accommodation. The islands must have co-ordinated rules for waste disposal and a good system of monitoring compliance.

Any breach of these rules must be penalised with steep fines. We need the tourism but not hundreds of tons of waste in the sea.

The handling of this waste will represent a great commercial opportunity for local waste managers.

I am, etc.,
